Plaster is a white powder and mainly consists of gypsum. It can be mixed with water to form a thick slurry which can be used to cast objects into moulds or it can be used to make a mould which can reproduce finely detailed models.
A variety of gypsum cements and plasters are used in mould making, master models and finished art forms. These products come from the highly versatile gypsum raw material more commonly referred to as “Plaster of Paris”
Plasters used to make Moulds:
This is a high quality white plaster, capable of absorbing large amounts of humidity. This makes it ideal for use as a pottery mould by absorbing the water from the pottery slip used in casting. This leaves a semi-dry reproduction of the shape of sufficient thickness to allow it to be removed from the mold for subsequent kiln firing after the excess slip from the mold has been poured. You may find more details about this at R.Kenward Plastering Contractors.
It is the most commonly produced gypsum mortar, with the lowest potential expansion limit. It is ideal for casting polyester and epoxy resins as well as being the industry standard for casting foam latex. It has strong power, but less warping inclination. It has a set 30 minute time. This has a dry compressive of 6000psi.
This component is made from rubber or plastic moulds for the economical manufacture of figurines etc. As a craft and educational tool it is ideal for young children in kindergarten and primary schools. It is widely use in the production of “whiteware” for use in plaster painting classes.
It is ideally suited for these activities since it has a hard surface that resists chipping and provides an excellent decorative surface.
This product is a good general purpose. Along with higher wet and dry strengths, it offers slightly better heat resistance. Ideal for making moulds of pottery case.
It is a gypsum cement neutral, with a maximum time of 25 minutes. It is commonly used for casting lamp bases and figurines in both hollow and solid. In color it is really bright.
A strong sturdy substance with a mold. Commonly called “buff” stone because of its colour. Ideal for casting prosthetics and controlled expansion of dental stones.
TB to hydrostone (USG)
Hydrostone is a gypsum cement that is particularly suitable for jobs where high strength and water absorption resistance are required. It is used in the production of high-quality novelty and statuary castings. This fits best for moulds in rubber, silicone and polyurethane.
This cement with gypsum may be used outdoors. It sets in 30 minutes and can be combined for outdoor statuary with equivalent amounts of sand
